The CWA Final exams are conducted by ICWAI. These exams are held twice a year in the month of June and December. CWA Final is the last and final level of the CWA course. CWA Final level has eight subjects under two stages of four papers each. Each paper consists of 100 marks. To qualify in a group it is important to get at least 40 marks in each paper and an aggregate of 50% in the group. The student can appear in both the groups at a time but the total marks obtained are not clubbed and therefore, it is necessary to pass individually in both the groups. The study material is provided by ICWAI and on internet there are different forums are available which share the previous years’ question papers and revision test papers for free. Students can easily download it from these websites. The revision test papers are issued by the ICWAI every time before the exams. There are no exemptions provided to the students of the CWA Final exams for any paper. Before appearing for the CWA Final exams it is compulsory to pursue training in computers, Modular training, Audit training and dissertation. But the students having ‘A’ level certificate or DOEACC or any Post Graduate degree or diploma from a recognized institution are exempted. Any change in the schedule or any notifications are updated on the website of ICWAI to let the students aware.


The syllabus of the CWA was theoretical few years back. But from 2008 onwards ICWAI has changed its syllabus. Now the syllabus of the CWA is aimed to provide a theoretical as well as practical training. The change in the syllabus from only practical to practical-cum-theoretical was appreciated by the students. It is necessary for any professional course to provide practical knowledge.  The syllabus of the CWA is designed better from the presentation and content point of view.  By making necessary change in the syllabus the students are now taking more interest as the syllabus is designed in self explanatory way. The stipend given to the students of the CWA is also more than the stipend given to the CAs. The syllabus of the ICWAI strongly focuses on providing more and more information based on the industrial and manufacturing sector. The syllabus also provides good knowledge on accounts and taxation. CWA is a course for the industry. The scope of CWA is very bright. CWA is the Cost and Works Accountancy. The exams conducted by the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India. This is the professional course. The minimum qualification required to appear is to pass the 12th class in any stream. After passing the 12th class the students can appear for the entrance exams of the CWA i.e. CWA PBA or Foundation. CWA Foundation programme has four papers of 100 marks each. To pass in the foundation programme a student is required to get a minimum of 40 marks and an aggregate of 50% in the papers together. After clearing this level a student gets admission in the intermediate level. The intermediate level is also termed as CWA BAC. In this level there are six papers arranged in two levels having three papers in each level. A student with a graduation or Post Graduation degree can get direct admission in the CWA Inter level. After qualifying the CWA Inter programme training is provided to the students. And only after acquiring the training the students can appear for the CWA Final exams. The exams of the CWA are comparatively easier than the exams of CA and CS. The ICWA qualified candidates hold the top management positions in the public and private sector companies. They are designated to the posts of Cost Controller, Finance Manager and Chief Internal Auditor etc. The CWA candidates who do not want to serve the companies can get a Ph.D. degree and can work in the field of education as being Readers, Lectures and Professors. Hence, it is up to the candidates of CWA to choose their career. With more and more experience they get more brighter chances for the promotion at the higher levels.


The exam for ICWAI Inter is taken by the institute. For different attempts different fees is charged. All the details regarding fees are updated on the website if ICWAI.  However, the fees varies according to the group or groups to be attempt by the students. The fees should always be submitted within the due date. After the due date the students has to submit late fees. After the last date only a 10 days delay is allowed to submit the fees. Examination fee is deposited in the form of DD in favor of “The Institute of Cost Accountants of India” at the Kolkata office.  For one group the fee is rupees seven hundred for Indian students and ninety dollars for the overseas exam centers. The late fee for the exam center in India is rupees two hundred and for overseas exam center is ten dollars. For both groups the fees get doubled and rupees one thousand four hundred is charged for the India exam center and one hundred eighty dollars are charged for the overseas exam center. The late fee for both groups is rupees two hundred for the exam center in India and ten dollars are charged from the overseas exam center.

The ICWAI Inter exam papers are held in the month of June and December every year. There are a total of six papers in the CWA Inter exams and these six papers are taken in two groups. Each group has three papers. In the first group the paper of Financial Accounting, Commercial & Industrial Laws and Auditing, Applied Direct taxation comes and in the second group Cost & Management Accounting, Operation Management & Information Systems, Applied Indirect taxes are included. The exams are not very tough and the students can easily prepare with the help of the study material provided by the institute. The study material is made in self explanatory way so that the student can easily prepare themselves. Each paper of the CWA Inter is of 100 marks and of 3 hours duration. The subject wise details of the papers are available on the website of ICWAI. To pass the exams a minimum of 40 marks are required in each subject and an aggregate of 50% are required to pass the exams. With the CWA Inter programme every student is required to take the practical training also. And only after passing both the groups and by completing the practical training the students can appear for the CWA final exams which is the last level to clear to become a Cost & Works Accountant.


The professional studies require more hard work as compared to others. But ICWAI exams are not tough. The exams of ICWAI inter are quite easier as compared to the exams of other professional courses like CA or CS. CWA also gives ranks to all its students who passes both groups at the same time. Therefore, students should try to appear for both the groups. A study in a planned way can get you the success easily. ICWAI checking is very easy and they provide good marks to the students. The institute provides study material and RTPs (Revision Test Papers) to its students. The study material and RTPs are very important as they are designed according to the syllabus and many times the questions directly come from these books and RTPs. Therefore, they are quite good for the final preparation point of view. CWA Inter questions are not tough and are straightforward. If the students study in a planned way they may easily score good marks. In the CWA Inter exams the first 25 marks are short questions which include Fill ups, True & False, Match the Followings and Full forms. These are most scoring part of the paper and less time consuming. At the time of attempting other questions look carefully what is being asked and what marks are allotted to that particular question. And therefore always answer the question according to its marks.
